What Happens if a License is Lost, Stolen or Damaged?

OpticStudio can run with softkey and hardkey (USB) licenses. This policy applies to both key types.

OpticStudio is licensed on a perpetual basis with either a softkey or a hardkey (USB). The license is worth the full value of the software (it is the thing you would sell if you ever sold your license). The software itself is available via download from www.zemax.com and can be installed on any number of machines. The license controls access to the software. There are scenarios whereby a license can be lost, stolen or damaged. These scenarios and Zemax policy on key replacements are outlined below.
 
MALFUNCTIONING HARDKEY
A hardkey that is not working for any reason will be exchanged at no cost. The damaged USB key must be returned to Zemax before a key exchange will be issued. Contact sales@zemax.com for instructions on exchanging your key.
 
COMPUTER FAILURE WITH A SOFTKEY
In some cases, a softkey can be reactivated on a computer that has had a hardware or software failure. If the computer's original hard drive or motherboard are working, the original softkey license will be recoverable. Once the computer is restored, contact Zemax Support for assistance. If both the hard drive and motherboard must be replaced, or if the computer has to be replaced with a new machine, the softkey license cannot be reactivated.

If the license cannot be recovered, a replacement license will be issued at no cost if the user purchased Zemax Productivity Assurance (ZPA). The user will be required to sign a form agreeing to deactivate the original license if it is ever recovered. Without ZPA, a new license must be purchased at full list price.
 
LOST OR STOLEN KEY
If the computer on which a softkey is activated is lost or stolen, or if the hardkey is lost or stolen, a replacement license will be issued at an 80% discount if the user purchased Zemax Productivity Assurancee (ZPA). The user will be required to sign a form agreeing to deactivate/return the original license if it is ever recovered. Without ZPA, a new license must be purchased at full list price.
