New! Optical System Design Using OpticStudio (Online)

Top benefits

  • During 2 hours each day, attendees develop an end-to-end example—from concept and specification to design, optimization, and tolerancing. They can also attend a 1-hour instructor-led lab after each class to work on class assignments and more examples, or to ask questions.
  • Attendees receive the same 5-day training from OpticStudio experts as in the in-person class, Optical System Design Using OpticStudio, in a format customized for online learning.
  • Attendees can attend from the comfort of their home or office, saving time and travel expenses.
  • Glass and refractive index
  • First and third-order optics
  • Aberration descriptions
  • Optimization
  • Image simulation
  • Diffraction and MTF
  • Three-dimensional optical systems
  • Local and global coordinate systems
  • Tilts, decenters, folds, and scanning mirrors
  • Tolerancing for manufacturing
Skills gained
At the end of the course, attendees will be able to:
  • Design imaging and afocal systems in OpticStudio’s sequential design environment
  • Optimize optical systems to meet specific design criteria
  • Tolerance optical systems to ensure their manufactured design meets specification
  • Identify and mitigate aberrations in an optical system

A background in Optics or attendance at Fundamentals of Optics is required. No prior knowledge of OpticStudio is required.

*Registration for training courses ends one week prior to the course start date.
  • Online courses will not be cancelled due to low attendance.
  • All classes are taught in English.
  • Classes are limited to 15 attendees.
  • More classes will be added based on demand.
  • Attendees will receive course notes in the mail before the class begins.
Because the training is conducted using a virtual lab, attendees need only a broadband connection to connect to a remote classroom computer (it has all the software they need, including OpticStudio).
